After a very disappointing loss to the Honolulu Volcanoes in the Playoffs two weeks ago, The Waikiki Stingrays bounced back on Sunday with a decisive 22-8 Victory over the Kailua Storm to claim the HGL 3rd Place Championship. Most of the Stingrays scoring came via the league’s most explosive passing attack lead by Kainoa Silva, Willie Folks and Scott Carr. Folks scored two huge TD’s including the game’s first to give the Stingrays a 6-0 lead. Rylee Urasaki put the storm on the board with a 6 yard run and Reggie Bathea added a catch for the two point conversion to give the Storm a 8-6 lead. The Stingrays turned it up after that and never looked back after Carr caught a shorter pass and out ran the Storm secondary for a 85 yard score of his own. The lone rushing TD came via an exciting 55 yard run by Leo Maiava as he shedded a tackler and out raced the Storm defenders to the endzone. Defensively Waikiki was lead by Kris Jaime who snagged two interceptions that stopped two potential Storm drives to help seal the victory. The Stingrays end their 2015 season with their best record in franchise history (5-1).
