The Hawaii Gridiron League announces tryout #2 for its 2016 season Sunday January 24th 2016 at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki Hawaii from 12:00-4:00pm.
The HGL is just months away from the Kickoff of our 2016 Season and teams are in search of players to fill some valuable roster spots. Each team will have their coaches and owners in attendance that will be there to evaluate talent based on your overall ability to play the game of football. Because we are a development league no player will be turned away and will be found a roster spot on a team. Tryouts are used to not only find players but also get to know them and determine how we can improve their performance and overall football skills.
This season we have some great things we are in the process of completing including teams from Maui and the Big Island joining the HGL. We are also in discussions to have our games played in Aloha Stadium. The HGL is also pleased to announce our partnership with the READ Foundation and their commitment to bring our Huddle Program to life as well as forge some much needed business relationships necessary to grow and sustain the mission of the Hawaii Gridiron League.
On Sunday January 24th Tryout Participants can expect the following:
12:00pm Check In and Registration begins (Registration Fee for all players attending the tryouts is $25.00 which will be applied to your $100 Player fee due immediately once you officially join a team. 1:45pm Change of Direction (Participants will be tested on their ability to complete what’s termed as the Pro Agility / Shuttle Drill. 2:15pm Position Breakdown (Participants based on the primary position they select to play will be broken down into groups based on that position’s skillset. Coaches will lead position specific drills and explain to participants what is expected of them in the next stage of the tryouts).
2:45pm 1 on 1’s (Offensive Players versus Defensive Player displaying their ability to beat one another. WR’s vs DB’s, RB & TE’s vs LB & SS/FS and OL vs DL. This is a non contact drill so nothing is live contact. Display your football skills in a controlled manner).
3:05pm 7 on 7 ( Offense versus defense as the O looks to execute it’s plays against the secondary and linebackers of the D. Once again this is not a contact drill so no contact will be tolerated).
